Luz Aquilante is the Executive Director of the FMS since April 2016. Before this position, she worked as Management Coordinator at FMS since 2015. She holds a degree in International Relations from Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Argentina, an MA degree in Decentralised International Cooperation from Universidad del País Vasco, Spain. She has postgraduate specialization in International Law, Human Rights and Gender Equality from Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and from National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM by its acronym in Spanish).
She has 20 years’ professional experience in the field of international development cooperation in civil society organisations (such as OXFAM International), the private sector – Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) –, Academia, international organisations and local government. She has 10 years' experience at the United Nations System (UNIFEM/UN Women). She was the Coordinator of the M&E area at the sub-regional UNIFEM/UN Women Office for Mexico, Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic (2007-2010); Coordinator of UN Women Argentina (2010-2014) and Coordinator of UN Women’s Civil Society Advisory Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (2015-2017). She was a member specialising on gender and human rights at Women’s Education, Training and Research Institute at Córdoba’s Women’s Provincial Council (2014-2016).
Her main areas of expertise are human rights based-approach, result management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), gender equality and women’s empowerment, women’s sexual and reproductive rights, women’s migration and trafficking, social and economic development, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and violence against women. She has extensive work experience in different countries, such as South Africa, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Central American countries and Argentina, and she has long experience in research and evaluation as an independent consultant.
